Pat Nevin noticed Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic get huge support from his teammates during Saturday’s emphatic victory against Wolves.

The Blues ended up securing a 3-0 home win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge, which stretches Graham Potter’s unbeaten run to four games.

Potter made seven changes to his starting line-up from the team that beat AC Milan in midweek, so this performance definitely highlights the depth of quality in the squad.

Kai Havertz broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time with his header. Afterwards, Pulisic doubled the advantage early into the second-half with his tidy chipped finish. Finally, substitute Armando Broja wrapped up three Premier League points with his powerful 90th minute goal.

Christian Pulisic against Wolves

Pulisic, who was starting his first game under Potter, scored his first goal of the season this afternoon.

The 24-year-old wide man has found it difficult to make his mark this campaign, but BBC pundit Nevin noticed he received a lot of support from the Chelsea side when he scored.

“What was most noticeable after that [goal] every single Chelsea player, bar the goalkeeper, ran right to the corner to go all over Pulisic, to say ‘we’re with you mate’. He’s a very popular player, and that’s a very popular goal around here,” Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live (4.15pm, 8 October).

Thierry Henry asked Pulisic earlier this week to seize his opportunity when it comes his way, something which he did with his goal against Wolves.

The left-winger isn’t quite at his sharpest after a lack of football recently, but today should do him the world of good.

Potter will be one happy man when he reflects on this result because several fringe players really stood up.

You would expect Chelsea to field a lot of the players that were rested today in next week’s match with AC Milan, but the competition for places will only be cranked up.
