Other than trying to save them, historically, goalkeepers stay well clear of penalties.
If ever the dreaded drama from 12-yards comes around, those wearing the gloves usually move to the back of the queue.
Understandably so. They are paid to prevent goals from going in, not the other way around.
But there is actually a case for ‘keepers stepping forward to take a spot-kick.
After all, they know better than anyone which corner the shots usually go into, or the probability of being dinked.
Manuel Neuer slotted one past Petr Cech in the 2012 Champions League final.

Joe Hart has smashed a few into the roof of the net with some force.
Ricardo infamously chucked down his mitts before placing his effort past Paul Robinson in the 2004 European Championship shoot-out between Portugal and England.
Have Chelsea now discovered another secret weapon from the spot?
Bettinelli bringing the goods
The club cameras were rolling when Marcus Bettinelli stepped up to try his luck from the white circle.
In a very similar style to Jorginho, the 29-year-old took a little jump to throw the goalie off the scent and then scored in the bottom right.
Granted, the ‘keeper in question was Christian Pulisic, who probably has much experience denying the strikes as Bettinelli has scoring them.
But if the time ever arose, at least Thomas Tuchel knows he can call upon the third-choice shot-stopper to step up.
Would he dare try the Jorginho-esque technique in a real game?
We highly doubt it, but it’s something everybody surely wants to see.
Unless it’s in the Champions League final, then we suggest leaving it to the pros, Marcus.
