Several senior players at Chelsea wanted Mason Mount to remain at Stamford Bridge.
That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
Mount left Chelsea for rivals Manchester United during the summer transfer window and Jacobs has shed more light on his transfer in his column for CaughtOffside.
On the attacking midfielder’s switch to Old Trafford, Jacobs said: “The saga definitely has two sides and now Mount has moved to Old Trafford we may never know the truth. Chelsea will always say they sold a player who wanted a new challenge that was right for him and his family, and Mount can’t really state he would have preferred to stay at Stamford Bridge now that he’s a Manchester United player.
“So both sides have to just move on. And it’s worth pointing out there’s still great respect for Mount at Chelsea, and several senior players desperately wanted him to stay.”

It has been a tough start at United for Mount. The 24-year-old was unable to make much of an impact in either of his first two games in red, with one of those ending in defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, and has not played since because of injury.
Chelsea have moved on from Mason Mount
While Mount’s Chelsea exit is still something that is being spoken about, the Blues, as a club, have closed this chapter.
They signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City at the end of the last transfer window, a young English player like Mount who can take up similar positions to his countryman.

It remains to be seen if Palmer can make the same sort of impact Mount did during his Chelsea days, with the United man, of course, helping his former side to win the Champions League back in the 2020/21 season.
Whatever the case, the England U21 international is the attacking midfielder the Blues will be looking to now, not Mount.
Palmer made his Chelsea debut in the club’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest just before the international break and will be hoping things end better against Bournemouth when Mauricio Pochettino’s side travel to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday.
