Timo Werner spoke about the good atmosphere in the Chelsea dressing room and highlighted Antonio Rudiger’s commendable reaction when he lost his regular spot under Frank Lampard.

At a club like Chelsea, there are always going to be competitions for the starting spots in almost every position in the team.

It is inevitable that some players would have to miss out, and different managers have their own preferences.

Lampard, for example often opted to trust the younger players such as Billy Gilmour and Reece James at the expense of some of the more experienced players.

On the other hand, Thomas Tuchel has relied on the senior players, but as a result, some younger players like Gilmour have not played as much.

Werner, however, insisted that there was no tension between the players and the managers due to their team selection as he spoke about the atmosphere in the dressing room.

“On the pitch and in training, everybody helps each other — it’s a very good atmosphere in the team,” Werner told Chelsea’s Mike’d Up Podcast.

“We know everybody wants to play, and they give their best. It doesn’t matter whether it’s me or anybody who goes through a tough time this season.

“For example, Toni [Rudiger], he didn’t play under the old manager but now he plays every game.

“And he was not mad under the old manager, he gave his best.

“Other players, Kai and I, now we play well again. It’s normal in a season.

“Doesn’t matter how many goals you have or will score, you will always have a bad time during a season.

“It’s important that you have a team that always stands with you — that’s our team.”

Credit to Rudiger, he has been one of the best performers since the new manager came in and deservedly reclaimed his spot in the team.

It is also nice to hear that Werner feels his teammates are supporting him when things admittedly have not been as smooth as what he would have hoped for in terms of adapting to a new league.
