Chelsea striker Timo Werner opened up about Thomas Tuchel’s interesting response when he asked for extra shooting sessions in training.
It is easy to see why the 25-year-old has not been satisfied with his finishing this season and would want to spend more time in training to improve.
He has missed quite a lot. In fact, in the Premier League alone, he has missed 18 big chances — joint fifth-most in the league.
That is three times the number of league goals he has scored this season.
Obviously, the Germany international has still had eight assists and been directly involved in more goals than any other Chelsea player this term. But he arrived at Stamford Bridge to score.
However, Tuchel apparently insisted that extra shooting practice would not former RB Leipzig ace

“No he didn’t [let me do extra practice],” Werner told The Telegraph.
“I had a lot of managers when it was not so easy to score say, ‘OK, come, we practice outside to give you a better feeling’.
“But also there is Thomas who says, ‘you scored your whole life. But it doesn’t come because you practice every day, it comes because you were calm, you had your head free, and you know what you do because you have this instinct to score’.
“It’s maybe the worst thing that you think too much, ‘OK, when I get the ball now, I want to hit it in the right corner’.
“No, when you get the ball, you shoot the ball and you know exactly where it goes.
“Maybe that’s the point he wanted to get through to me, that I don’t have to practice all the time to get the feeling back, that the instinct works.”

It is certainly an interesting argument, to say the least. Tuchel has actually explained his reasoning before as well.
Werner’s record of 32 goals in Bundesliga and the Champions League last season, of course, speaks for itself.
The fact that Werner has had so many big chances also suggests that he does not really have a problem in terms of getting into dangerous positions.
So the goalscoring issue is primarily down to his finishing.
As Werner pointed out, Tuchel seems to not want him to think too much during games.
But the opposite might also be true. Werner might gain confidence if he could consistently slot the ball past the goalkeepers in training.
Although, given Werner has played third-most minutes in the league this at Chelsea, only behind Edouard Mendy and Mason Mount, Tuchel understandably might want to avoid giving extra workload for the striker.
Perhaps, let him have his extra sessions occasionally?
