Ruben Loftus-Cheek played his best ever Chelsea game in Sunday’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Tottenham, according to Pat Nevin.

The Blues were involved in a fiery encounter at Stamford Bridge on the weekend, which eventually finished level between the London rivals in the Premier League clash. There’s no doubt Thomas Tuchel’s side were the dominant side on the day, though.

Kalidou Koulibaly’s superb volley put the hosts ahead in a first half they completely dominated. Hopefully, it’s the kind of team performance that gives everyone a huge lift moving forward.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg equalsied for visitors Spurs midway through the second half before Reece James restored Chelsea’s lead when he finished off a pass from Raheem Sterling.

Eventually, Harry Kane stole a point in stoppage time with his goal from a set-piece.

The Chelsea and Spurs rivalry is showing no signs of slowing down, as managers Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte came to blows on a couple of occasions. Tuchel explained in his post-match interview the run-in with his opposition number.

Loftus-Cheek against Tottenham

Nevin singled out Chelsa’s Loftus-Cheek for immense praise following his contribution against Spurs.

The 26-year-old started and impressed in a right wing-back role, which is a position he’s played in a few times now.

Nevin boldly started it was the Chelsea academy graduate’s best ever appearance.

“I’ve seen Ruben Loftus-Cheek play the best game of football he’s played for Chelsea Football Club, and I’m really comfortable saying that,” he said.

“I hope it’s now Ruben’s time. We’ve waited a long, long time. Keep up that sort of standard and you’re going to be so big for us.”

Nevin alluded to the fact Chelsea have waited a while to see the best of Loftus-Cheek, whose career has nosedived after bursting on to the scene.

However, he looks excellent under Tuchel in this wide role. He showed his versatility by dropping into a more familiar central midfield position later on, too.
