Last night saw Chelsea loanee Kendry Paez make his second start for his country at senior level.

It’s fair to say that native journalist Pablo Giralt was one who was extremely impressed with what he saw.

Paez picked up an assist on his debut a few weeks’ ago, becoming the youngest player in South American history to record this feat.

At the age of just 16, he went one better last night as he found the net for the first time for his country.

He latched on to a Moises Caicedo pass, who picked up another two assists for his country in the 2-1 win over Bolivia.

Chelsea have already been said to be delighted with the £17m addition of Paez, despite him not yet being able to join up with the first team squad.

Ecuadorian media seem to have been equally as impressed with the youngster, with Giralt claiming that a star was born during last night’s win.

He said: “He broke all the record books. Kendry Páez, at 16 years and 161 days, becomes the youngest soccer player to score a goal in the South American Qualifiers. A star is born in Ecuador.”

The future already looks bright at Stamford Bridge due to the young nature of the signings.

Players such as Andrey Santos have created plenty of excitement over their future, even if he is struggling to nail down minutes at Nottingham Forest right now.

However, with Paez now starring on the international stage, it would be difficult not to be thrilled that Chelsea have already tied down a deal to sign the teenager.
