Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has not held back with his criticism of Chelsea’s owners.
Earlier this month, the Daily Mail claimed that some figures at Chelsea are arguing that Conor Gallagher should be sold to help the club comply with Premier League spending rules.
After spending so much money in the summer, the Blues may now need to balance the books by making a big sale or two, but Jamie Carragher has taken to X to share his disapproval of Gallagher being sold.
According to The Sun, Chelsea could sell Gallagher for £50m with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur interested in him.
Conor Gallagher situation a mess
Carragher is not impressed with what is happening with Gallagher right now and has criticised Chelsea’s ownership amid the rumours that the club are willing to sell the midfielder.
On X, the former central defender said: “Gallagher has been Chelsea’s best player this season along with Cole Palmer, this just shows what a mess the new ownership have made at the club. Selling an academy player because it helps with FFP.”
Chelsea owners deserve criticism
Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital definitely do deserve criticism following their acquisition of Chelsea and not just because they could be about to sell one of Mauricio Pochettino‘s key players.
They sold a lot of the club’s more experienced footballers, the likes of Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho, and spent so much money on individuals who are not the finished product yet.
Mykhailo Mudryk, who is still just 22 and only managed to score his first goal for Chelsea this season despite arriving at Stamford Bridge in January, is just one example.
With such an inexperienced squad, it is no surprise that the Blues are really struggling in the Premier League right now, finding themselves nowhere near the top four.
