The dust is now settling after another hectic transfer window at Chelsea.

Unsurprisingly, the Blues were extremely active in the window during the summer period, both for incomings and outgoings. Chelsea’s full transfer business includes several exciting new signings, with Joao Pedro the pick of the bunch so far.

On the pitch, Chelsea have kicked off the new Premier League season with two wins and a draw to underline a positive start.

Chelsea confident they can compete for the Premier League for longer

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are ‘upbeat’ after the summer window because they feel the current group is stronger than the squad that finished fourth in the Premier League last season.

The report adds that nobody inside the Blues camp is insisting that they win the league title this year. However, there is definitely optimism that Enzo Maresca’s side are in a better position to compete for the Premier League for longer and to close the gap to the top.

We think most fans would agree Chelsea currently look like the fourth strongest team in the country behind Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City. It is obvious that they are taking giant strides forward under Maresca’s guidance, though.

It was claimed before the season that Chelsea’s target is another top-four finish in the Premier League.

Can Chelsea compete for the Premier League crown?

In fairness, Chelsea were positioned around the top end of the league table for the first half of last season before some terrible form over Christmas forced them into a top-four race.

Tony Cascarino tipped Chelsea to challenge for the Premier League this year. If they can stay in touch with the elite sides up until February or March, anything could happen.

It should be quite telling on 4 October when the Blues host reigning champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the league.

We’ve seen that Maresca is capable of coaching his young team to victories against anyone. Do they have the consistency to produce every week over a 38-game league season, though?
