What Chelsea did two hours before the deadline to try and sign Victor Osimhen, it didn’t work

Chelsea seemed to put all their eggs in one basket late in the transfer window when it came to signing a new striker.

The Blues were insistent on bringing in Victor Osimhen from Napoli, with him very much out of the plans over in Italy.

Antonio Conte will be relishing the chance to work with Romelu Lukaku again in Serie A, and Chelsea must have thought a deal for Osimhen was on the cards.

Chelsea made best proposal for Osimhen two hours before deadline

However, it seems as if an agreement couldn’t be reached between the prospective club and player, and the deal for now is off.

It seems Chelsea did everything they could though. Fabrizio Romano stated on his YouTube that the Blues put their best proposal together at around 10pm, however a deal could not be reached.

He said: “Tonight, at 10, Chelsea presented a new important proposal. Chelsea did their best but Osimhen still said no. I think it’s now over.”

Chelsea are now set to go another transfer window without addressing the striker position, with their closest acquisition to this being the signing of Joao Felix.

Big season for Nicolas Jackson

This will therefore crank the pressure up on Nicolas Jackson to continue to build on his strong start in English football, and deliver with the majority of minutes up front.

The Blues were linked to a number of different strikers this summer, with Jhon Duran, Ivan Toney and Samu Omorodion all being discussed at different stages as the potential answer to their woes.

However, the main goal always seemed to be Osimhen, and he looks set to stay at Napoli where he will likely not feature for the next few months, with there always being the potential that Chelsea revisit the situation in January if they feel the need to invest again up top.
