What Chelsea owners are thinking about Enzo Maresca after FA Cup exit and poor Premier League form

After a flying start in all competitions, Chelsea are in a lull following their recent run of form domestically.

Last weekend saw them exit the FA Cup with a whimper following a 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the Amex.

Just a couple of months ago, many had the Blues as the top contenders in a Premier League title race alongside Liverpool. They even had a chance to go top of the league temporarily if they picked up a win against Everton in December.

Chelsea cheifs happy with Enzo Maresca despite FA Cup exit

Enzo Maresca always denied this fact though, and fast forward to now, their last Premier League win against West Ham saw them return to the top four after temporarily dropping down as low as sixth.

The boss’ comments after the cup exit infuriated some supporters as he looked to find positives from them being eliminated from a competition the Blues have had plenty of success in over the years.

Despite only being in the first year of what is a lengthy contract at Stamford Bridge, job security is not something that can be guaranteed at any stage since the new owners came in.

Todd Boehly and co will no doubt be looking for a longer term solution at the helm than what transpired with Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino before, and according to The Athletic they have no cause for concern with Maresca despite the poor run of form.

The target for this season is finishing in the top four, however success is expected in the Conference League at the end of this campaign.

What have Chelsea players said about Enzo Maresca?

It seems that the current squad are big fans of the current manager, with no talk emerging of any rifts between anyone and the man in charge.

Levi Colwill has been a key player for the Blues this season, and believes that Maresca’s influence has allowed them to break sides down far better than before.

He said to Chelsea’s official website: “There’s a lot of learning we have to do, picking up new things from the gaffer, who’s showed us a different perspective, which is top.

“The gaffer has opened our eyes up a lot more to how to play, how to break a team down — there’s a lot of parts at play and everyone’s part makes a big difference.

“That’s what we’ve realised about things like positioning, where you receive the ball, your touches on the ball — they all work towards our goal, and that’s obviously scoring. I think we’re all clicking now, we’re all on the same page, which helps us so much.”

Chelsea chiefs really need to put their backing into a manager to take their project forwards, and Maresca is learning quickly on the job as a Premier League manager. He should be given sufficient backing to carry that on in the summer transfer window.
