What Chelsea’s data has told them about Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling

It was a busy end to the transfer window for Chelsea, with them jumping into most of their action in the final few available weeks.

One of the big targets of deadline day in particular was moving on a number of players who were deemed surplus to requirements for Enzo Maresca, and this is exactly what happened with Raheem Sterling.

The winger moved on loan to Arsenal, with him being notably out of the plans since the first week of the Premier League season.

The Blues left nothing to chance when it came to bringing in new attackers, adding Pedro Neto, Jadon Sancho and Joao Felix to their ranks.

From the outside, it may look as if the Blues were purely stockpiling talent in their attacking roles, however Chelsea have seemingly relied on the data model they have continued to lean on since the new owners came into the club.

Chelsea’s data says Felix can reach higher level than Sterling

According to ESPN, that data suggests to them that Felix is likely to reach a higher level than Sterling, meaning the signing makes sense to them.

The Portugal international scored his first goal of his second spell at the club on his debut against Wolves, combining well with Neto to cap off a brilliant second half for the Blues.

Decisions for Enzo Maresca in attack

Maresca certainly does have a headache now to try and pick a maximum of four attackers to start each game, with the likes of Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke impressing greatly in the opening weeks of the season.

One player who may be in trouble as far as minutes go is Mykhailo Mudryk, with him struggling to make the most of his time on the pitch since he joined the club.

Maresca has already seemingly been getting annoyed by Mudryk, with him regularly seen at Stamford Bridge shouting a variety of instructions that suggest he hasn’t quite got to grips with what is required of him in the manager’s system.
