Chelsea have booked their place in the FA Cup final after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Leeds United at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, and fans were delighted with Enzo Fernandez at full-time.

Going into the game, not many gave Chelsea a chance. This was a Chelsea side that had just sacked their manager, having lost their last five Premier League games without scoring. Calum McFarlane took charge.

This was against a Leeds side in good form and yet, McFarlane got his tactics and his changes right. The interim manager brought in Tosin Adarabioyo, Joao Pedro and Alejandro Garnacho, and it worked.

Gusto and Sanchez excellent!

Robert Sanchez sparkled between the sticks, earning a clean sheet after Rosenior had managed just four in 23 games. But Enzo Fernandez was Ally McCoist’s choice for man of the match on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea fans show their Enzo Fernandez appreciation

After the match, Chelsea fans were understandably delighted. Other than a 7-0 win over League One side Port Vale in the previous round of the FA Cup, the supporters have been forced to watch loss after loss.

But finally, McFarlane orchestrated that winning feeling, and Chelsea will now face his old employers, Man City, in the final. Chelsea’s players celebrated the win with their supporters, having not done for a while.

According to BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea’s supporters showed plenty of appreciation for their match winner, Fernandez, despite everything that has happened. The fans told him they loved him.

“Chants of “ooooh Enzo Fernandez” after the match. A rare moment of celebration for Chelsea, such scenes haven’t happened since Aston Villa away on March 4,” Kinsella reported on his X channel.

The context: Why Chelsea support for Fernandez is important

This comes after Fernandez flirted with Real Madrid and has hinted he would leave Stamford Bridge while on international duty with Argentina. Something Rosenior decided to internally ban him for; two games.

How clutch is Enzo Fernandez? We’re not going to be able to replace him…

Then, after the defeat to Brighton, Fernandez crossed his arms in front of the away end while wearing the captain’s armband and stood there, shrugging his shoulders. It felt like a player ticking the time away.

Yet, on Sunday, things could not have been more different. A player showing passion, a player showing commitment and once again, a player loved by his fans. Perhaps, Rosenior’s exit sees Fernandez stay.
