Eden Hazard has been trending amongst the Chelsea fanbase once again after Real Madrid announced they would be releasing the 32-year-old.

The Belgium international still had 12 months left to run on a contract lasting until June 2024.

However – after an injury nightmare in Spain – Real Madrid have decided to offload their No.7 early.

That has led Chelsea fans to discuss a potential return for Eden Hazard – as a result, let’s see what he has previously said about returning to Stamford Bridge.

What Eden Hazard has said about Chelsea return

Well, the Belgian seemed open to a Chelsea return when speaking to a fan back in December 2019 – just months after he completed his £89m move to Real Madrid in June 2019.

Hazard told Frank Khalid: “I do my job here (Real Madrid) and then come back.”

Unfortunately, the Chelsea legend was unable to do his job at the Santiago Bernabeu due to a number of injury problems.

Hazard missed a total of 78 games for Real Madrid as a result of fitness issues, and has only managed to make 76 appearances since arriving in June 2019.

In those outings, the £384,000-a-week man only scored seven goals and provided 12 assists.

It truly was a nightmarish spell for Hazard at Real Madrid, although he would be welcome back at Chelsea any day of the week given the legacy he left behind in Stamford Bridge – in our view at least.

Whether it would be a wise decision to re-sign him is another question given his injury problems, but in terms of popularity, there would be few people moaning if the Blues did reach out and offer a lifeline to the 2014/15 Premier League Player of the Season.

In our view, a coaching rule to help the likes of Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk develop could be an option for Hazard at Chelsea, although it is probably too early for that given the fact he is just 32.

Be sure to keep an eye on Hazard’s situation, as – if he can prove his fitness – a player of this quality surely won’t be unemployed for long.
