Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has tormented defences for well over a decade, including Chelsea’s, but it’s been confirmed that he’ll be leaving the King Power Stadium at the end of the season.
On Thursday, Leicester officially announced that Jamie Vardy will be leaving this summer after 13 incredible years at the King Power Stadium.
The announcement comes days after it was confirmed that the Foxes have been relegated from the Premier League.
Vardy, now 38, has cemented himself as a true great of the Premier League era, especially after spearheading Leicester’s unforgettable title success in the 2015/16 campaign.
Back in the 2022 summer, it was claimed that Chelsea were monitoring Jamie Vardy, even though the veteran centre-forward was in his mid-thirties. Finally, the Englishman is leaving the King Power Stadium as a Leicester legend.

Jose Mourinho claimed in 2015 that Jamie Vardy could play for a big club
Chelsea know all about Vardy and his attacking threat because he’s played against them 23 times in his outstanding club career, which went from non-league to Premier League champion.

Back in December 2015, Leicester secured a 2-1 win at home against Chelsea, which was significant for a number of reasons. First, it was a crucial three points for the Foxes during their title-winning season. On top of that, it was the last match that Jose Mourinho ever managed Chelsea because he was sacked just days after.
Ahead of Mourinho’s last match as the Chelsea boss during his second spell in charge, he raved about Leicester’s Vardy and his general quality. In fact, he stated he could play for any big club with his skillset.
When discussing Leicester’s Vardy in December 2015, Mourinho said via The Daily Mail:”He is top scorer and it is normal that big clubs want him. Even at a big club (counter-attack) transitions are important, fast players are important, people to attack space behind defenders are important.
“Obviously in the big teams sometimes we face very low (defensive) blocks where technical players to play in the box are very much needed. But I think a fast player with objective and being direct can have success everywhere.”
Even though Vardy was good enough to play for anyone in his prime, he stayed loyal to Leicester for over a decade to write his name into the club’s folklore.
He’s got five games remaining in what’s been a horrid season for Leicester to try edge up to 500 appearances and 200 goals for them.

Even though he only spent a year in the East Midlands, N’Golo Kante is etched in Leicester’s history for his key contribution to their title success. In fact, the midfielder may be one of the few players that make it into the all-time XI of two clubs.
Kante was named in Chelsea’s greatest ever team in a recent poll voted for by the fans.
