Some excellent footage has emerged of Lesley Ugochukwu during his first training session as a Chelsea player this week.

Lesley Ugochukwu, who’s just 19, signed for Chelsea a couple of days ago.

The Blues decided to spend £23million (BBC) to sign the young defensive midfielder from Rennes.

Now, he’s already joined up with his new teammates and Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team squad.

Chelsea uploaded a video on TikTok of Ugochukwu involved in Chelsea’s training this week in the United States.

The newest Blues signing has been caught producing a stunning flicked pass which he put through the legs of Diego Moreira.

Those watching closely may even be able to spot teammate Christopher Nkunku in the background, who put his head in his hands after being stunned by the skill of the latest signing.

Incidentally, Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States is now over and the entire group are returning to England to work towards the Premier League opener against Liverpool.

Despite his age, Ugochukwu already has some decent experience in Ligue 1 and European football with Rennes.

He’s a powerful defensive midfielder that has arrived at Stamford Bridge to strengthen the options in the centre of the park, but supporters are wondering if he’s a genuine option for this upcoming season.

Mauricio Pochettino recently admitted that the youngster’s future is currently unclear heading into the new campaign.

When discussing Ugochukwu, Pochettino told Football.London: “Now is time to assess him until the end of the transfer window and see if he is going to be with us or the way the club signed, maybe it can be a different possibility to loan or stay with us.”

It’s going to be very interesting to see what the make up of Chelsea’s midfield is for the new season.

Our guess is that Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher and Andrey Santos will compete alongside one more first-team signing for the centre of the park. That could mean Ugochukwu’s development may be best served out on loan, but let’s see what Pochettino makes of him.
