Chelsea are seemingly edging ever closer to landing Romelu Lukaku this summer, with several signs suggesting he still loves his former club.

In the past few days, there have been plenty of indications that the Blues are focused on re-recruiting Inter Milan’s centre-forward.

Sky Sports Italia claimed on Monday that the Serie A holders had rejected a major offer from the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.

The Athletic followed this up by stating Inter had turned down two bids from Chelsea for their Belgian attacker.

There is a growing sense that the San Siro chain of command will have to gear up for another siege from the Champions League winners.

Reuniting with Romelu

If the Blues get their man, memories of his failed spell in South West London may come back to the surface.

It’s been over half a decade since Lukaku left Chelsea to join Everton permanently in 2014.

Since then, the 28-year-old has bagged a tonne of goals for the Toffees, Manchester United, and Inter.

But all along his journey, there have been hints that he continues to hold Chelsea in high regard.

An image recently resurfaced of Lukaku’s reaction to Kai Havertz’s arrival from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.

In an Instagram post, Inter’s striker called Havertz ‘a star in the making’.

Now, more evidence of Lukaku’s love for the Blues has been identified.

Mason Mount described the interaction he had with the sensational goal scorer after the pair played against each other in 2018.

“Last season, when I was at Derby (County), we had (Manchester) United in the cup,” said the Chelsea star to MOTDX last March.

“After the game, Lukaku actually came over and spoke to me and said ‘I know what kind of player you are. Keeping work hard.’

“He was like ‘Let’s swap shirts inside.’”

Maybe Mount can pull this jersey out of the wardrobe to give back to Lukaku if they become teammates this year.
