As the Chelsea players battled hard to pick up another Premier League win at the weekend against Brentford, one player stood out above the rest in their efforts.

Moises Caicedo has enjoyed a sensational season at Stamford Bridge so far, however the West London derby may well have seen him put in his best performance of the campaign.

Chelsea fans were in awe at Caicedo’s performance, and his stats backed up that he had been crucial in them picking up all three points to maintain the pressure on Liverpool at the top.

It has been hard to find a better midfielder than Caicedo in England so far this season, and his ability to kickstart attacks was on show when he won the ball back for Nicolas Jackson’s breakaway goal.

Regaining possession has always been the Ecuador international’s bread and butter, and his ability to do so high up the pitch was on display at the weekend.

In fact, according to WhoScored, the midfielder won possession in the final third five times in that game, a figure higher than any other player has managed in the Premier League so far this season.

Enzo Maresca says Caicedo could change position at Chelsea

Caicedo has occasionally been operating as a right-back this season, with the quality of Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia giving Enzo Maresca a real selection headache.

The manager said Caicedo could feature more often on the right of defence, and the next example of that happening could end up being on Sunday against Everton.

Lavia is expected to return to fitness for the trip to Goodison Park, and Chelsea are undergoing somewhat of a defensive injury crisis at the moment.

Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are all out at the moment, while Marc Cucurella will not be available due to suspension after being sent off after the final whistle against Brentford.
