What players are now doing to join Chelsea despite club’s struggles

Chelsea continue to be an appealing destination for players despite the Blues not being the club they used to be.

Chelsea have declined since being taken over by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital. They are no longer a Champions League side and finished the last two seasons in sixth and 12th place.

The Blues are also yet to win a trophy under the club’s new owners, though they were able to reach the Carabao Cup final in the 2023/24 campaign.

Nevertheless, Chelsea have still been able to convince players to join them, with Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix set to be their next addition. Chelsea will be signing Felix for £46m in total.

Chelsea’s new signings taking wage cuts

Despite the club’s decline, players still look desperate to join Chelsea, with some even willing to compromise to make a deal happen it seems.

Journalist Kaveh Solhekol recently claimed that some of Chelsea’s new signings have slashed their salaries in order to move to Stamford Bridge.

“Several new signings are believed to have taken wage cuts in order to move to Chelsea,” Solhekol said on X.

Chelsea will be delighted that players are joining the club on wages that are not outrageous, especially when they are trying to offload individuals already there who are on huge money.

The above would include Romelu Lukaku, who is wanted by Antonio Conte at Napoli.

Chelsea need Victor Osimhen to take wage cut

The player whom Chelsea need to take a pay cut is Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. Chelsea want Osimhen on loan, but his wages are a problem.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 25-year-old does not want to reduce his salary, while he is also not keen on a loan move, presenting Chelsea with another issue.

Enzo Maresca will be hoping that Chelsea can overcome the above obstacles, as he could really do with a centre-forward of the Nigerian’s calibre.

Nicolas Jackson missed some good chances in the Blues’ 2-0 defeat to Manchester City last weekend, while Maresca will also be well aware of the opportunities that he squandered in the last campaign.
