Todd Boehly is now planning to take a sideways step at Chelsea once the current transfer window is over.

That is according to the Daily Mail’s Transfer Confidential email (sign-up link here).

So, what is the latest on Todd Boehly at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it is said that the American may choose to step into the shadows at Stamford Bridge once the chaotic transfer window is over.

Boehly has been searching for new investment to plunge into Chelsea, as he aims to help the Blues move on to the next stage of their development.

Should new investment be found, then it would appear that the 49-year-old may consider stepping out of the limelight at Chelsea to let someone else become a more prominent figure.

After agreeing a British record £115m deal for Moises Caicedo – and also seeing a £55m bid for Romeo Lavia accepted by Brighton – Boehly is close to taking his spending in west London beyond the £1bn mark.

In our view, that is simply ridiculous, given the fact he only took over from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.

Todd Boehly cannot go on like this at Chelsea

While some Chelsea fans might not care about what Boehly is doing – as long as he keeps delivering shiny new transfers – his antics are unsustainable, and put the Blues at risk.

For example, if Boehly suddenly decides to leave Chelsea within the next five years, the Blues could face financial ruin.

Boehly has signed a lot of expensive players and placed them on lengthy contracts, which – according to Sky Sports – helps to spread the payments out and avoid any Financial Fair Play issues.

However, if he pulled the plug on his investment and left Stamford Bridge, it could cause a lot of problems with so many players on these long-term contracts.

Hopefully, that doesn’t turn out to be the case, and Boehly remains committed to Chelsea for many years.
