Reports have claimed that VAR actually told referee Stuart Attwell to stop the game following Raheem Sterling’s goal to make it 3-1 to Chelsea against Burnley.
However, according to The Telegraph, a miscommunication saw his message not get across to the man in charge until after the Clarets had already kicked off to continue the game.
Sterling latched on to a Conor Gallagher pass in the second half at Turf Moor to put the Blues up by two goals, despite falling behind in the first half.

While it looked close to whether the England international had strayed offside, the goal was originally awarded and play continued.
However, seconds later the game was stopped in order to allow VAR to properly check the decision.
VAR shambles at Chelsea
The shambolic situation comes just a week after Liverpool wrongly had a goal disallowed for offside in their Premier League game against Tottenham.
This brought plenty of attention to the system that officiates our game, and also plenty of questions as to what would have happened at Turf Moor if they had found Sterling to be offside.

According to the laws of the game, there is no format in place that would allow them to go back and overrule the decision they had made originally.
It didn’t matter in the end, as Sterling was actually onside and Nicolas Jackson found the net again to put the game beyond doubt.
However, the uproar that would have come had the decision gone the other way is easier to not imagine.
