Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia is still 2-3 weeks off playing again after his latest injury this season.
That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.
Romeo Lavia, 20, joined the Blues last summer from Southampton. Unfortunately, he’s only played one match for Chelsea during this very frustrating debut campaign so far.
The Belgian midfielder missed the opening half of the season through injury before a club debut in December. He’s been back on the club’s busy injury treatment table ever since.

Simon Phillips reported via his Substack on Tuesday (7.30am) that Lavia’s now been training on the grass at Cobham for a couple of weeks.
However, sources tell him it’s still a little while before the youngster can play competitively again.
Phillips wrote: “I understand Romeo Lavia has actually been back on the grass for almost two weeks now and this week he has started with ball work again. Next step will be full team training and sources believe his return to the squad for a game is still around 2-3 weeks off.”
Romeo Lavia update
Let’s hope Lavia will be back on the pitch next month and that he gets a proper chance to launch his Chelsea career.
We’ve got big belief that the young defensive midfielder can add so much to the Blues XI when fit. He was superb last year in a Southampton team that were ultimately relegated from the Premier League.
It would be great for supporters to get a concrete update from the club on a potential return date.
According to DH earlier this month, Lavia’s injury has been “voluntarily hidden” by Chelsea because clubs like to be discreet when it comes to repetitive muscular injuries. They note that the midfielder’s injury is also more serious than they initially thought, too.
There’s a huge reliance on the duo of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo in Chelsea’s midfield right now, which is proving too much at times. Therefore, Lavia’s introduction to the squad would be a major boost for the back end of this season.
