2019 has been a year of success for Chelsea. The club was unlucky not to win the Carabao Cup in February, regained Champions League qualification in May, and went on to win the Europa League.
After losing star-man Eden Hazard in the summer, Frank Lampard came in and revolutionized the club. He has taken Chelsea to the last-16 of the Champions League and has the Blues sat comfortably inside the Premier League top four. But who have been the three standout performers in 2019?
Jorginho

Jorginho started the year as a bit of a scapegoat under Maurizio Sarri. The man labelled by many as Sarri’s ‘mate’, was heavily criticised in the early part of the year.
However, this criticism was short-sighted, and people were judging him purely based on numbers of goals and assists. That is not what Jorginho brings to a team. His conductor like dictation of play, combined with his ability to spot a pass and create space for teammates makes him an invaluable member of the current Chelsea side.
He has found his way under Lampard this season and proved against Arsenal on Sunday that he is crucial to the success of this team.
Eden Hazard

Despite only playing in five months of 2019, Eden Hazard just has to be included. He was superb for Chelsea towards the end of last season. His goals, assists, and all-round dynamic attacking play was crucial in the club’s success last time out.
Two goals in the Europa League final along with several important goals and assists in the club’s race for fourth last season give Hazard a spot as one of Chelsea’s best players in 2019.
Mateo Kovacic

The final spot on this list goes to Mateo Kovacic. The Croatian midfielder was one part of the most infamous substitution in football last season. Barkley for Kovacic, Kovacic for Barkley. Maurizio Sarri was constantly swapping the pair, but the 25-year-old Croat impressed none the less.
After earning a permanent move to Chelsea in the summer, Kovacic has come into his own this season. His ability to turn defence into attack in the blink of an eye gets fans off their seats and he is arguably the club’s player of the season so far.
