Why Chelsea do not need Jadon Sancho

Chelsea fans have made no secret of their desire for childhood Chelsea fan Jadon Sancho to join Frank Lampard’s youthful revolution. However, with Christian Pulisic’s fine run of form, and the growing confidence of Callum Hudson-Odoi, do the Blues really need him?

Sancho is undoubtedly one of the hottest prospects in world football. The Dortmund wide man has already scored three goals and provided five assists in just eight league starts this season.

Chelsea have won six league games on the spin and are a team rejuvenated by the injection of young blood. Sancho would fit right into this culture, but would it be a waste of spending considering the incredible talent the club possess in the wide positions?

Hudson-Odoi has started just five times for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring once and providing four assists. Meanwhile, Pulisic has been in explosive form. He has registered five goals and two assists in six league starts.

There is little difference in the returns each player boasts so far this season. This begs the question of whether Sancho would improve Chelsea’s attacking prowess. Pulisic might be hoping that Sancho stays clear of Stamford Bridge, seeing as the American’s progress was halted at Dortmund due to the emergence of Sancho. He made just nine starts in his final season at Dortmund compared to Sancho’s 26.

Sancho would no doubt be a statement of intent from Chelsea but there are better ways the club could invest when the transfer ban is lifted.
