Chelsea’s win against Arsenal was no doubt a crucial one. It leaves the Blues four points clear in fourth spot and looking good for Champions League qualification going into the new year. But why did this win mean more than just the three points?
It was the first time this Chelsea team have come from behind to get a result in the Premier League this season. Before Sunday, the Blues had lost every game they had fallen behind in. The players will no doubt have been growing aware of that statistic, and it may well have been becoming a mental stumbling block.

For such a young team, confidence is everything. Getting over a concerning statistic like this one could be huge for Lampard’s side, and could kickstart a rejuvenated second half of the campaign.
The inability to turn games around was causing speculation to grow about the squad’s character, but this cannot be questioned now. Chelsea produced a spirited second-half display and were well worth all three points against Arsenal.

They conceded just 13 minutes into the game, and could easily have fallen to a fifth defeat in seven Premier League games. However, late goals from Jorginho and Tammy Abraham gave the Blues a crucial three points, their first after falling behind in the league this season.
Chelsea should now have a new level of belief for the remainder of the season. Even if they go behind, this team has the spirit, character, and ability to get back into it and turn games around.
