Chelsea kicked off their pre-season tour of the United States with a 2-2 draw with Wrexham, but new signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall did not feature.
Chelsea signed Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City earlier this month to strengthen their options in the middle of the park, but it was Lesley Ugochukwu who made a real impact in Enzo Maresca‘s first game in charge.
Ugochukwu scored in the 82nd minute to make the score 2-2 after the Blues had found themselves 2-1 down.
They had initially taken the lead through Christopher Nkunku in the first half, but goals from Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott put Wrexham in front before Ugochukwu netted to save Maresca’s men from an embarrassing defeat.
While Dewsbury-Hall was unable to play, Marc Guiu made his debut and impressed Chelsea supporters.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall absent for Chelsea vs Wrexham
Chelsea supporters would have been hoping to see Dewsbury-Hall, one of the club’s other new signings, make his debut earlier.
Dewsbury-Hall is settling in well at Chelsea, but he missed his side’s draw with Wrexham because of injury.
However, it does not look like it is something to worry about, with journalist Nizaar Kinsella sharing on X that it is only a small niggle that the 25-year-old has picked up.
Dewsbury-Hall will now be hoping that he can feature in Chelsea’s next friendly, which is against Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
Chelsea disappointed in 2-2 draw with Wrexham
Maresca would have liked to have had Dewsbury-Hall available and won the Wrexham game.
Of course, it is only pre-season. The most important thing is building up fitness. That being said, Chelsea had some very good players on the pitch, while Wrexham are a League One club.
Overall, the Blues were a bit disappointing and should be winning friendlies like that considering the strength of the team that was put out.
Again, though, with it only being pre-season, there is no reason to panic. What is really going to count is their first game of the new Premier League campaign against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on August 18.
