Chelsea’s first-team player uploaded an Instagram post reflecting on the club’s defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League, which has received an interesting response from Arsenal defender William Saliba in the comment section.
Chelsea kicked off their season at the weekend by losing 2-0 at home to reigning champions Man City in the Premier League. Unfortunately, new Blues head coach Enzo Maresca began his managerial spell on Sunday with a comprehensive defeat.
Despite an early setback in the season, there were at least still a few positives to take.
Wesley Fofana seriously impressed with his Chelsea display, making his first competitive appearance in well over a year. The 23-year-old central defender played the full match versus Man City, and it was his first league appearance since May 2023 because of a long-term injury.

William Saliba reacts to Wesley Fofana return
Fofana uploaded an Instagram post on Monday reacting to Sunday’s loss at home to Man City, vowing the team will come back stronger.
Interestingly, Arsenal’s 23-year-old centre-half William Saliba, who previously played alongside Fofana at Saint-Etienne, responded with some encouraging words for his former club teammate.
Saliba wrote in the comments: “They ain’t ready.”

The Chelsea defence
Hopefully, Chelsea can begin to find a consistency in their defensive line that’s not existed in the past couple of years.
It was a centre-back combination of Fofana and Levi Colwill that started on Sunday, which looks like it could have real potential moving forward. In particular, Fofana’s a quick and aggressive defender that will only improve as his fitness builds.
In the full-back positions, Malo Gusto or Reece James slots in at right-back, while Marc Cucurella is the standout left-back right now.
It wasn’t an ideal start conceding two goals to Man City in the season opener, but let’s see in the coming weeks how tight the defence can be.
