William Saliba taunts Enzo Fernandez after Chelsea man caused World Cup heartbreak

William Saliba and Enzo Fernandez could be a couple of players to keep an eye on when Chelsea face Arsenal next month.

Saliba was part of the France squad that lost to Fernandez‘s Argentina side in the 2022 World Cup final.

The central defender has fared much better against Fernandez when playing for Arsenal and has been quick to remind everyone of that fact.

Both players have been linked with moves to Real Madrid; however, Chelsea are confident they can keep hold of Fernandez.

William Saliba has never lost to Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea

While Fernandez and Argentina got the better of Saliba and France in the 2022 World Cup final, the former has been unsuccessful against the latter at club level.

In fact, since joining Chelsea from Benfica in 2023, Fernandez is yet to beat Saliba and Arsenal. It is something that Saliba brought up when asked about getting revenge against Argentina at the next World Cup.

Speaking in a press conference, which has been relayed by RMC Sport, the 24-year-old said: “So far, I haven’t lost to Enzo Fernandez with Chelsea. So, yes, I’ve had revenge with Arsenal over Chelsea. When a team beats you, the only thing you want is to play them again. And if we do things well and qualify, I think we’ll have a way to get our revenge.

“That’s not what we want, to go to the World Cup to necessarily get our revenge, we just want to win. But if we come up against them [Argentina], of course we’ll be happy to get our revenge.”

Fernandez will be hoping his miserable run against Arsenal comes to an end when Mikel Arteta takes his side to Stamford Bridge at the end of November.

Enzo Maresca will undoubtedly be relying on Fernandez to help Chelsea beat the Gunners. The Argentine is easily one of the Blues’ best players.

Jamie Redknapp thought Fernandez was “magnificent” in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool last weekend.

William Saliba’s record vs Chelsea

Assuming Saliba plays in Arsenal’s next game against Chelsea, which you would expect him to, that would be his sixth match versus the Blues.

In the five that the France international has played so far, he has won three and drawn two. It will not be easy, with Arsenal being the best team in the Premier League at the moment, but hopefully Chelsea can finally hand Saliba his first defeat against them next month.
