Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has been questioned by one source close to the club’s dressing room.

The source recently suggested to The Athletic that Thiago Silva is not really showing that he is a winner at the moment, while neither the 39-year-old nor any of his team-mates are taking responsibility right now.

Chelsea have made a dreadful start to the season, taking just five points from their first six games.

It has left them sitting in 15th place in the Premier League table, though they have the chance to climb it tonight with a victory against Fulham in the west London derby.

Silva will be expected to play in the game at Craven Cottage, with the Brazilian being an ever-present under Mauricio Pochettino so far. He has started all six of Chelsea’s top-flight games this season.

Chelsea need Thiago Silva

Maybe Silva has not been himself recently. But even for a player with all of his experience, it is understandable if Chelsea’s struggles and all the negativity surrounding Stamford Bridge are affecting him.

As things improve, perhaps the Brazil international’s influence will start to grow again.

And at the end of the day, he is still a quality defender, with Manchester United legend Gary Neville hailing him as “world class”.

Ultimately, with such a young squad, we think Chelsea still need to keep Silva around. A player like the former Paris Saint-Germain captain, it is probably only a matter of time before he starts to show his leadership qualities and experience again, and those are not things that are always easy to buy in the transfer market.
