Tottenham are claimed to be interested in trying to sign Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger – and some Spurs fans on Twitter have responded by saying they’d love him at their club.

Eurosport claims Antonio Conte’s Spurs are putting forward a “strong proposal” to try sign Rudiger.

The report states Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wants to keep the 28-year-old beyond the end of this season when his contract is due to expire, but it’s now “almost certain” he’ll be heading for the Stamford Bridge exit doors.

Rudiger, whose future at the Bridge is massively under threat, is now being chased by Premier League rivals Spurs.

The £29million centre-back has been a man mountain in defence since Tuchel’s arrival in January, but there is no positive news around a possible contract extension. Incidentally, BBC pundit Garth Crooks said last month he’s the best defender on Chelsea’s books.

Spurs fans would love Chelsea favourite

A selection of Spurs supporters on social media confess they would love to bring in a player of Rudiger’s ability, albeit it would mean signing from a London rival.

The athletic centre-half looks at the peak of his powers right now as one of Europe’s elite defenders.

If he moves on a free transfer next summer, any club would be getting someone who’s playing the best football of his career with real authority and confidence.

For Spurs, they are now growing into a back-three system under their new manager Conte. It’s a formation that Rudiger has mastered during this calendar year as Chelsea’s left-sided centre-back in their back-three.
