‘Would be lucky’: Tony Cascarino thinks that even £51m striker would flop if he joined Chelsea

Tony Cascarino thinks Erling Haaland would struggle to score on a consistent basis within this current Chelsea team.

Writing for the Times, Cascarino came to the conclusion that the Manchester City forward would’ve suffered had he moved to Stamford Bridge.

Haaland was reportedly being hunted down by the London side throughout the latter stages of his Borussia Dortmund career.

City eventually managed to defeat the competition and seal his signature for £51m last summer.

The 22-year-old is surely grateful he ended up in Manchester rather than the English capital.

He has scored 27 times already this season under Pep Guardiola, just three fewer than the whole senior Chelsea squad combined.

Graham Potter’s side have seriously struggled in the final third, and have never once truly looked like blowing an opponent to smithereens.

There is a lot of promise, but ultimately zero end product.

Erling Haaland would hate Chelsea

Playing without a free-firing number nine hasn’t helped Potter in the slightest.

Yet, even with the presence of a target man, Cascarino claimed Chelsea would still fail.

“Their style at the moment comes down to plenty of possession but it rarely offers much of a threat to the opposition. I don’t think you can play counterattack football unless you offer a threat,” said the former Blue.

“Erling Haaland would be lucky to get ten goals a season if he was part of a Chelsea side playing as they did at City.”

Guardiola’s men recently demonstrated the exact reason why the Norway international was right to snub the Cobham hierarchy.

They destroyed Potter’s pack in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, comfortably scoring four without reply.

The Premier League meeting just a few days prior was slightly closer, yet City still controlled the second-half and never really looked like giving up their lead.

Haaland went a rare night without rippling the net at the Bridge, but remains lightyears ahead of any Chelsea player in terms of grabbing the goals.
