Harry Redknapp feels that Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount will come back in for England’s next European Championship match.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Redknapp is anticipating Mount’s return for the quarter-final clash with Ukraine.
The 22-year-old has sat out his nation’s last two fixtures due to being in isolation away from Gareth Southgate’s squad.
He and Ben Chilwell both had to segregate after coming into contact with Billy Gilmour, who recently tested positive for covid19.
Mount was back on the bench yesterday for England’s epic win over Germany but didn’t make it onto the pitch.
Redknapp review
Redknapp believes that Chelsea’s bright star will get the nod from Southgate to face Ukraine.
“I think he might change it next time, I think there will be changes for the next game,” said the former Tottenham Hotspur manager.
“I don’t think we’ll see exactly the same 11 that started last night. I think Mason Mount will be fit and available after he had to isolate for the Covid scare.
“I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see Mason Mount back in the team. I think Gareth’s a big fan of his as we all are.
“So we’ll see what he does, but whatever he does he’s coming up with the winning formula.”
Southgate selection headache
In Mount’s absence, Southgate opted for a front three of Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling to face Germany.
Jack Grealish was also involved in the 1-0 win over the Czech Republic whilst the Blue’s ace remained in isolation.
England’s coach now has a big call on whether to recall Mount or stick with the players that have served him well recently.
His faith in Saka is clear, as the Arsenal teenager has been preferred to several of his slightly senior teammates.
Grealish also contributed excellently in his last two appearances, grabbing an assist both times.
Then there’s Phil Foden, who hasn’t played the previous pair of fixtures.
A healthy dilemma to have for sure.
