West Ham reportedly turned down the chance to sign Chelsea player Ruben Loftus-Cheek on deadline day – and some Blues fans on Twitter can’t believe their rivals didn’t take up the option to get him.
According to TalkSport, Chelsea offered the 25-year-old midfielder to London neighbours West Ham on Tuesday.
However, the Irons rejected the opportunity to sign the Chelsea individual and ended up bringing in Spartak Moscow man Alex Kral.
Loftus-Cheek has remained with the Chelsea squad following a failed last-ditch exit, so has got the formidable task on his hands of trying to get into the current XI.
The powerful Englishman looks a long way off his form from a few years ago, so it’s hard to picture him breaking in as one of the central midfielders.
However, he played further up the pitch in attacking positions during stages of his season-long loan at Fulham last year. It’s something that Tuchel could possibly experiment with given there is little cover for Romelu Lukaku at striker.
Loftus-Cheek stock has dropped considerably
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are stunned West Ham turned down Loftus-Cheek.
However, it goes to show his reputation has taken a bit of battering.
It’s clear his career hasn’t quite got back on track since returning from a long-term injury a couple of years ago, but he should take heart from the fact he’s still only 25.
There will need to be a big slice of luck for him to get back into favour at Chelsea, albeit many in the fanbase still love him.
Here are some Chelsea fans that clearly still rate Loftus-Cheek:
