Xabi Alonso is doing everything he can to secure Chelsea’s first signing of the summer, and take him from under the noses of one of their European rivals at the same time.
Alonso’s transfer plans have already likely changed as it has become clear a number of last season’s top stars have decided against remaining at the club.
Marc Cucurella has already left the Blues, while Enzo Fernandez is pushing to secure a move to Real Madrid with his performances at the World Cup.
CHELSEA’S FIXTURES ARE ANNOUNCED!
Xabi Alonso pushing to sign Marco Palestra for Chelsea
Alonso was wanting to keep Cucurella, but will now have plenty of say over who the club bring in to replace him this summer.
One player they have been strongly linked with is Marco Palestra, who won the Serie A defender of the year award during his time at Atalanta.

It was expected that he had chosen a move to Inter Milan, however Alonso is now having his say and causing him to rethink.
Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Alonso considers Palestra an important player for the future of the club, causing the player to now rediscuss his options.
He said: “Xabi Alonso considers Palestra important for the new course of Chelsea. The player will speak with his agent and Atalanta to decide what to do.”
The defender has featured at both full-back positions, whilst also showing what he can do in an attacking sense in the wing-back roles.

Palestra signing would give away Xabi Alonso’s tactical plans
The 21-year-old’s ability to play in the wing-back position could expose the fact that Alonso is looking to play in a back three at Stamford Bridge.
There will be an argument over whether Reece James has the capability to bomb up and down the wings, and could see his future as a central defender.
He would likely be joined by Levi Colwill, although the club would need to bring in another quality addition to the back three.
The Blues have been strongly linked with the signing of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, who has plenty of experience featuring in a back three.
