Paul Canoville has suggested Chelsea should swap Romelu Lukaku for Roma striker Tammy Abraham this summer.
Lukaku, 28, hasn’t quite lived up to expectation since he re-signed for the Blues last year.
The Belgian forward has 12 goals 37 Blues appearances this season, which makes his £97.5million transfer cost look a sizeable mistake at present.
In contrast, Abraham is now up to 24 goals across all competitions this campaign since Chelsea sold him to Italian club Roma last summer.
The 24-year-old’s been loving life in Rome, and is yet another massive talent to come out of Chelsea’s academy at Cobham.
Ex-Blues player Canoville claims he would definitely swap Lukaku for Abraham when asked on Twitter:
Chelsea CF dilemma
Obviously, a player that cost a near-£100million transfer fee should be one of the first names on the team sheet. He can’t get in Thomas Tuchel’s best line-up right now, though.
It’s a massive dilemma for Chelsea manager Tuchel because German attacker Kai Havertz is looking like the best option in the centre-forward role.
Therefore, it raises huge question marks over consistently using Lukaku from the bench.
Abraham was sold by Chelsea because they wanted an upgrade in the final third, but it does look like his overall game is improving since his move away.
There’s so many players thriving elsewhere since being sold by the Blues. However, it’s impossible to keep hold of them all.
