Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi could be in contention for Monday’s London derby against West Ham.
This is certainly a big boost for Chelsea, considering the attacking problems they had in back-to-back defeats to Everton and Wolves.
Despite dominating possession in both games, Chelsea lacked the decisive final passes Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi could provide.
Fortunately, the pair are now back in training and could be ready to face West Ham.
“It is their first day back with the group today training at a decent level,” Lampard told reporters in his pre-match press conference on Friday (via Chelsea’s official website).
“I will have to see how they are the next two or three days to see if they make West Ham.”
Lampard also confirmed that Chelsea don’t have any new injury news ahead of the game.
About Premier League shareholders’ decision not to extend the number of maximum substitutions in a match from three to five, the Chelsea manager doesn’t see it as “a blow”.
Although, he is still in support of allowing more in-game changes.
“So I think it [increasing the substitutions] would be really beneficial for player welfare,’ he added.
“Normally in the modern day, player welfare and employee welfare comes down from the top.
“I don’t think it quite has this time but the decision is made and we just carry on.”
