Chelsea's interest in Aouar suggests Mateo Kovacic could return to Madrid
Some reports claim that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.
The Frenchman has played exceptionally well for the last season or so in an eye-catching Lyon side. Barcelona, Man City and Liverpool are also interested in a player who would add a lot to any midfield.
Aouar scores plenty of goals from the left side of central midfield. He has 5 in 14 appearances this season. The 22-year-old is also creative and sets up goal scoring opportunities regularly.
Any transfer would cost over £35 million but he does seem worth such money. If Chelsea do move for Aouar this would suggest that they are not planning to make Mateo Kovacic’s loan permanent.
Kovacic would cost around £60 million to sign permanently. He is a very good all round player. The only knock on him would be that he does not score any goals.
Chelsea may be unwilling to spend a huge sum on Kovacic who they know will not contribute that much in an attacking sense. Aouar, who will be more dangerous going forward and will be cheaper, is a tempting option.
