John Terry has been made assistant manager at Aston Villa. The Birmingham club are languishing in 15th place in the Championship and are leaking goal after goal. Ethan Ampadu is in need of playing time but, instead, he is sitting in the stands at Chelsea.
Overall, the pieces are beginning to fall into place. Villa could do with a centre back to help shore up their defence. Ampadu needs to play in order to develop. A loan move to Villa would seem to make sense.
The Welshman is unlikely to play much this season, if at all, under Maurizio Sarri. Europa League and EFL Cup matches are perfect games in which young players can develop. The opposition is not particularly strong and the stakes are not particularly high.
If Ampadu cannot get an opportunity in these matches then he simply is not going to play this season unless there is some desperate injury crisis.
Ampadu would be certain to play fairly often at Villa. What is more, he would have the chance to learn under the instruction of Terry, who is one of the greatest defenders of all time. Given Terry’s connections with Chelsea, the transfer itself would be easy to organise. This move makes sense.
