If Matt Miazga had any chance of making the grade at Chelsea, that is probably now gone. Some laughed after the American’s transfer to Chelsea in 2016 from New York Red Bulls.

He did manage to make a couple of appearances. At only 23, the Blues sent him on loan to Nantes in Ligue 1. Chelsea clearly thought he was worth keeping an eye on. He has shown promise in the last year. He has become a regular starter for the USA national team after impressing on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.

He began this season well at Nantes. He was starting regularly and he made headlines for his no nonsense response to an opposition player who stood up to him.

However, a change of manager resulted in the American being left out of the side and even the squad. This week, he did not even train with the first team and the new manager sent him to the reserves to train.

Nantes will most likely encourage Miazga to find a new club in January. He will no doubt return to Chelsea with his tail between his legs.

Whether it be back to Vitesse or somewhere at a lower level than Ligue 1, Miazga has suffered a possibly terminal blow to his long term prospects at Chelsea.
