5) Ball playing defender

This long pass to Ashley Cole demonstrated Terry’s underrated passing ability with both feet. He was rarely mentioned as a great ball playing defender. He should be.

4) Body on the line

This example came in an England shirt but it still sums up Terry’s bravery and commitment to defending at all costs.

3) Terry the keeper

Another classic Terry moment. He would never have accepted anybody else taking this responsibility. Petr Cech and substitute keeper Carlo Cudicini had both gone off with bad injuries and the captain stepped up. He kept a clean sheet as well in the minutes he guarded the fort.

2) Goal vs Napoli

This goal was not only a brilliant header but it was crucial in sending Chelsea through in the last 16 of the 2011/12 Champions League. We all know what happened that season as the Blues went on to win the European Cup for the first time in their history.

5) Winner vs Barcelona

The Blues were 3-2 up on the night. However, with time running out, they were still heading out on away goals unless they scored. Cue Terry’s intervention and one of the greatest moments in Chelsea history.
