‘A top player’: Conor Gallagher raves about Chelsea teammate that’s really impressed him

Conor Gallagher is massively impressed by Chelsea teammate Raheem Sterling, who he described as a “massive signing” for the club this summer.

Gallagher, 22, is one of a few Chelsea players that have had the pleasure of playing alongside Sterling before on the international stage with England. He was in the most recent Three Lions camp alongside Blues players Reece James and Mason Mount, too.

It’s going to be interesting moving into the 2022/23 season to see how much Thomas Tuchel relies on his English core of players at Stamford Bridge.

Sterling, who cost £47.5million to sign from Manchester City this week, arrives at Chelsea with a huge buzz around his name.

The 27-year-old’s a proven attacker that consistently performed in a Man City shirt, eventually leaving the Etihad Stadium with 131 goals and 94 assists in 337 appearances.

Incidentally, Rio Ferdinand thinks Chelsea’s owners have done so well to get him.

Gallagher impressed by Sterling

Chelsea midfielder Gallagher is adamant that his new club teammate is a brilliant addition at the Bridge.

He’s explained how impressive Sterling has been from his first-hand experience at England:

“He’s a massive signing,” said Gallagher.

“The experience he has in the Premier League is massive and very important for Chelsea. He’s a top player. A top attacking player. He scores goals, gets assists. Off the pitch, he is very professional and he helps the younger players as well which is good.

“I feel like what he has achieved already in his career, it is kind of natural to turn him into a little bit of a leader, with all the experience and advice he can give to young players. With England, he speaks to the younger boys like me and a couple of the others and he is great. Also, on the pitch, that’s where it is most important and that’s where he will do his thing.”

Get Southgate permanent season ticket

England manager Southgate is often spotted in West London watching Chelsea games, but he may as well get a permanent residence in the stands next season.

The core nucleus of the England XI could well be built around several Chelsea players, so let’s hope they perform together at club level.

A Mount-Sterling combination in attack is one that, in particular, is going to be intriguing to watch. They’ve had mixed success playing in the same line-up, so all eyes are on Blues manager Tuchel to get them ticking together.
