Ben Chilwell praises Chelsea teammate for heroic display in West Ham win

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has had his say on the team’s 1-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday as he praised Blues saviour Christian Pulisic.

The Blues had a hard time breaking down West Ham’s solid defence, having only registered five shots on target from 26 total attempts in the game.

Chelsea had a big opportunity to take the lead after Craig Dawson brought Romelu Lukaku down in the penalty box in the second half but Jorginho failed to convert his spot kick.

Fortunately, Pulisic, who came on in the last 15 minutes of the game, scored a late winner and helped Chelsea secure the win.

Chilwell was impressed, clearly.

“Saved us today. Well done, bro,” the England international told Pulisic during a post-match interview with Chelsea TV.

“Great finish. Happy for him.

“It’s a big win. Proud of the boys today.”

Asked whether he felt nervous watching the game from the stand, Chilwell responded: “Always. Always nervous.

“The main thing today is the win. So yeah, happy day.”

Chilwell is out for the season due to a cruciate ligament injury but has recently begun some light training on the pitch.

Despite Marcos Alonso’s strong performance, it was still pretty clear that Chelsea missed their first-choice wing-backs; Chilwell and Reece James in the game.
