'Fights non-stop': Christian Pulisic says £150k-a-week Chelsea player is really important to the side

Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic has claimed teammate and club captain Cesar Azpilicueta “fights non-stop” for the side.

Azpilicueta, who earns £150,000-a-week, is a senior figure within the Blues dressing room.

The defender’s won it all during nearly a decade at Stamford Bridge, which is why he’s a massive fan favourite around the club.

His contract has been running down and was due to expire this summer. However, it’s been confirmed a clause has been triggered to hand him a one-year extension that keeps him at the club until 2023. Incidentally, Blues manager Thomas Tuchel thinks there’s now a “very high” chance ‘Azpi’ will stay next season.

Blues attacker Pulisic was full of praise for the 32-year-old when asked him about him in a press conference yesterday:

“He’s our captain. He does a lot of little things very well. The guy fights non-stop. He bring energy to the team and he’s definitely just a huge positive spark within our team. He’s very important for us. I don’t have enough good things to say about him,” Pulisic said.

Chelsea experience to stand up tonight

Hopefully, the Blues can lean on all their experience when they play Real Madrid tonight at the Bridge.

Tuchel’s side host Madrid later in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.

Azpilicueta, along with pretty much the entire squad, know what it takes to go all the way in the Champions League after winning last season’s European top club prize.

A freak result at the weekend saw Chelsea lose 4-1 to Brentford even though they had most of their experienced heads on the pitch.

You’d expect the big players to rise to the occasion tonight, though.
