Chelsea’s Kai Havertz has admitted that he’s really confident playing under the management of Graham Potter.
Havertz, who spearheaded the Blues frontline yesterday, scored and assisted during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory at home to Bournemouth.
It was a much-needed win on Tuesday evening for Potter’s side, who returned to action after the winter break by earning three Premier League points at Stamford Bridge.
Havertz opened the scoring against Bournemouth with a close-range finish when he tapped in an excellent Raheem Sterling cross. The 23-year-old then turned provider to assist Mason Mount’s goal shortly after in the first-half.
His match-winning contribution justified the decision from Chelsea boss Graham Potter to leave striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the bench.
Havertz confident under Potter
Chelsea’s forward gave a special mention to his head coach in his post-match interview yesterday:
“He [Graham Potter] gives me the freedom to do whatever I feel comfortable on the pitch. I like to play free and to be in the box. He gives me a lot of confidence,” Havertz told Amazon Prime Video (7:30pm, 27 December).
Incidentally, Potter praised Havertz after the Bournemouth victory.
Havertz now has five Chelsea goals so far this season across all competitions, with four of them coming during Potter’s reign.
The £150,000-a-week attacker looked really effective this week against Bournemouth in a forward position, which also allowed him to drift into pockets of space at the top end of the pitch.
It looks like Potter may put his faith in him to lead the line during the second half of the campaign.
