'He's been fantastic': Harry Kane says 22-year-old Chelsea player has really impressed him

Tottenham’s Harry Kane has said Chelsea star and England teammate Reece James has been “fantastic” this season.

James, who’s missed a few games lately through injury, is having an eye-catching individual campaign.

The 22-year-old’s a powerhouse defensively that’s continuing to improve his craft working under manager Thomas Tuchel.

Also, he’s scored five goals and created six assists in 23 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Spurs forward Kane plays alongside James on the international stage, and he’s claimed he’s been really impressed by him. Interestingly, he did this while naming two Chelsea players in his current Premier League 5-a-side team.

“I’ll go Hugo [Lloris] in goal. Sonny (Heung-Min Son) up top. Mo Salah up top,” Kane said.

“I’ll go for [N’Golo] Kante in midfield.

“Kind of need to put a defender in there, don’t I. I’ll go for Reece James. He’s been fantastic this year and he can do some great attacking as well.”

Chelsea have their own full-back superstar

Thankfully, Blues fans shouldn’t have to wait much longer until James is back available for selection.

The right wing-back has been unavailable since the end of December with a hamstring problem, which has really highlighted how important the width is in Thomas Tuchel’s system when he deploys a back three.

James reportedly stayed at Cobham during the winter break to continue the recovery process from his injury. Apparently, he may even be back in time for next week’s FIFA Club World Cup.

A modern trend has seen full-backs turn into household names and become superstars in their own right. For example, Liverpool have two in both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson. Elsewhere, Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo has been one of the Premier League’s best performing players this season.

James has been making the headlines when fit during this campaign, as well as Chelsea’s left wing-back Ben Chilwell to a lesser extent, too.

It’s been proven that academy graduate James can play several roles to a high standard due to his versatility. It’s simple that he must be a nailed-on figure in the Blues XI when available, and he should only keep getting better with age and experience.
