'He's playing good': Willian raves about Chelsea player that has really impressed him

Willian has raved about the quality that Thiago Silva still possesses, claiming the Chelsea defender is an “inspiration” to him.

Former Chelsea star Willian, who now plays for rivals Fulham, has praised Silva.

Silva, who turns 38 tomorrow, is somehow still consistently delivering top-class performances in the Chelsea line-up.

The Blues centre-back starts most games in the heart of a back three, providing a calming influence to those around him.

He’s still a regular Brazil international, too.

Willian raved about Thiago Silva

Fulham’s 34-year-old winger, Willian, says he hopes he can emulate his fellow countryman and keep playing into his late thirties.

“How long do I think I can play for? Maybe until I’m 39-40. I’m going year by year. Playing in the Premier League is difficult to play until you’re 40. But I look at Thiago Silva. He’s 38. He’s playing good. He is an inspiration for me. We are close and we will hang out in London together now I am back,” Willian told The Athletic.

Willian wasn’t always the most loved by supporters during seven years at Stamford Bridge, but he achieved so much in Chelsea colours. If you look at the way the Blues attack has performed in recent seasons, a prime Willian would stroll into the starting line-up.

Silva a rock for Chelsea

Described as “intelligent” this week by Pat Nevin, Silva continues to be the glue in Chelsea’s defence.

Graham Potter should know he can still rely on the experienced defender in big games, albeit he may need to pick and choose carefully when to rest him.

It’s up to the rest of Chelsea’s centre-halves to try match and get to his level.

Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly both arrived in the summer with big reputations as top defenders, so let’s hope after the international break they can start cementing their spots in the Blues XI.
