Reported Chelsea target Jonathan David has confessed to being unaware of manager Graham Potter.
Speaking to Capital Football, the Lille forward revealed to having zero knowledge of the Blues boss.
Despite being in charge of one of the biggest clubs in the world, Potter’s name has probably hardly broken out of the Premier League.
His honest rise from coaching university side Leeds Beckett to standing out in front of the Stamford Bridge crowd is largely only known within British circles.
He certainly won’t have attracted much positive attention from the outside world at the beginning of his Chelsea tenure.
A nine-game unbeaten run for Thomas Tuchel’s predecessor swiftly came to halt in rather stark circumstances.
Since that purple period, Potter has won just three times across all competitions.
The pitfalls of Potter’s reign
Chelsea are out of both domestic cup competitions, and slumber in 10th place in the league.
But this fall from grace hasn’t prevented players from penning their allegiance to the Blues.
Todd Boehly has managed to secure the signings of several, young talents during Potter’s short reign, including the gifted and sort-after duo of Joao Felix and Mykhailo Mudryk.
There is one name who might not be on his way to South West London, however.
“It’s flattering when you are praised but personally I don’t know him,” replied David when asked about Potter’s apparent interest in him.
Jonathan David is clearly not a Chelsea fan
The Lille striker has been linked with a move to Chelsea this season, although rumours of a transfer have died down recently.
Which is somewhat surprising, considering the claims Boehly is in the market for a new number nine.
As front men go, the Canada international probably goes under the radar somewhat.
Yet, David certainly deserves to be respected.
He has scored 13-times for the French outfit this term, edging closer to the net he bagged in the previous campaign.
His price tag should also be an indication of how much Lille value the attacker.
They are said to view the 23-year-old as a £52m goal scorer.
A high figure, but much cheaper than nearly all of Boehly’s recruits.
