22-year-old Chelsea player opens up on his conversation with Todd Boehly

'I spoke to him': 22-year-old Chelsea player shares two things he's learnt after conversation with Todd Boehly

Chelsea’s Reece James has shared details of a brief conversation he’s had with Todd Boehly, who’s reportedly on the brink of finally completing a club takeover.

American businessman Boehly, who’s been heavily linked with a Blues takeover during the last month, has been attending club fixtures.

Sky Sports claims his consortium may finally get the approval from the government to complete the takeover and become new owners within the next 24 hours.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel recently explained he will welcome a chat with prospective club owner Boehly about transfer activity this summer.

James conversation with Boehly

Blues 22-year-old defender James says he’s already had a quick meeting with Roman Abramovich’s successor.

Apparently, there’s two key things that he noticed.

First of all, James thinks that the new owner is “passionate” about Chelsea as a football club. Also, that he’s got the mentality to win at Stamford Bridge.

It certainly ticks a lot of boxes if you’re a fan anxious about what will look like under the next ownership.

“I spoke to him briefly. I know he’s passionate about the club, his aim is to win. We’re not just going to change to a club that’s participating… everyone that plays at this club is ambitious,” James said.

Clock is ticking fast

With the domestic season now over, the summer transfer window is flying around fairly quickly.

Chelsea’s current sanctions mean they’re at a disadvantage to rivals when it comes to transfer activity, so they need a finalised takeover as quick as possible to allow the club to get to work.

Boehly’s lofty ambitions are really going to be measured by supporters on what Chelsea spend in the summer window.

It does feel like quite a lot of work needs doing to the squad, so let’s hope Tuchel receives the appropriate backing.
