Emerson Palmieri has spoken on his Chelsea future by claiming he would be happy returning to Thomas Tuchel’s squad next season.

Emerson, who earns £44,000-a-week, has just spent the 2021/22 campaign out on loan with French side Lyon.

The 27-year-old defender became an important player for the Ligue 1 outfit, making 36 appearances across all competitions.

He’s an attack-minded left-back that plays for reigning European champions Italy, so ideally wants to avoid being just a squad player.

Emerson on Chelsea future

Emerson’s due back at Chelsea for pre-season this summer and he’s explained he would be open to staying at Stamford Bridge to fight for his spot.

The left-footer’s made 71 appearances for the Blues since joining in 2018 without really nailing down a permanent starting role.

He says that he’s happy rejoining the Chelsea squad for the 2022/23 season if instructed, though.

Incidentally, his current deal with the London club expires in 2024.

“For me personally it’s been a good season, I played a lot of games. Let’s see what happens in the future. I have a contract with Chelsea. I’ve played there for three years and won some things. If I need to go back there I’m happy,” Emerson said.

“It’s a good place for me, a good club. But I don’t know. Let’s see the next moves what can happen. I’ve not spoken to the coach.”

Tuchel reportedly has plan

It’s been claimed Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is looking forward to welcoming Emerson back into his group for the next season.

With Marcos Alonso linked with a move away from the Bridge, Tuchel may need another left wing-back to pick from to compete with England international Ben Chilwell.
