New Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria has praised the quality of teammate Kai Havertz after previously playing against him.
Zakaria, 25, joined the Blues on the summer transfer deadline day from Juventus on a season-long loan.
He’s arrived at Stamford Bridge to reinforce the options in the centre of the park, but it’s been confirmed he won’t be making his club debut in Saturday’s Premier League match at home to West Ham. Incidentally, The Chelsea Chronicle has predicted the starting line-up that will take to the field today against rivals West Ham.
Zakaria praised Havertz
Interestingly, Zakaria has hailed the ability of 23-year-old Chelsea attacker Havertz after facing him.
The duo came up against each other in the German Bundesliga at their former clubs, but will now get to share the same dressing room.
“I played against Kai [Havertz] in the Bundesliga. Incredible player,” Zakaria said.
This does highlight just how good Havertz was in Germany.
The left-footed forward was immense at former club Bayer Leverkusen and one of the brightest young prospects in football, which eventually earned him his move to the Bridge a couple of years ago.
There’s some special moments for him to reflect on in Chelsea colours, most notably the goal that helped win the Champions League crown.
However, Premier League audiences are still yet to really see the version of Havertz that lit up the Bundesliga.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also joining Chelsea on deadline day, it should serve as a warning to Havertz.
He’s started all five of the Premier League games this season, but has to improve to stay in the best Blues line-up.
